  • Kids like me

This is an email that Virginia sent me about her grandson:

Natty told me on the way home from the store this morning that he "Loves Denise and Debra and all the old people!"

This is is so cute.  He loves everyone and everything.

  • As I was getting ready for bed I realized that my thought process really might be abnormal. I had three things to get done: brush, pee and take out the contact lenses. To decide the order in which these activities would occur, I factored in these factors: time-efficiency, wetting of the hands, cleanliness at each stage and how to avoid pee-mouth contact.

I was asked how I decide who I give my time and efforts to. I think the answer tends to be something related with people who are amused with me during my most innane (see above aka at my best), supportive during my least reasonable (at my worst), and appreciates me in between.

I'm not sure how many such people actually exist, but each new person I meet is potentially someone like that. The more I see those qualities, the more I want to spend time with those people. Now that I write that down, it seems so basic it seems silly to have had to write out.

  • Thesis Tech Update

Now on page 39 (of 50) on my first of 3 run-throughs

    More Spread-worthy Word tips:

I just found that Word can also automatically label/caption tables and figures. You use the same tool --> insert--> references--> caption. Then you choose the configurations you want.

Just as I enter a world where I'll never need to know this ever again.
  • Tech Updates

I'm going a little bit crazy, so... I decided to periodically update about cool things that excite me even in the revision process of writing my MA thesis paper.

    Cool Stuff #1:
Automatic Table of Contents creator in Microsoft Word.

Revisions means different page numbers, which means redoing the table of contents constantly. Using automatic table of contents is easy. All you do is set your headings to the pre-set "heading 1" "heading 2" etc (you can change the formatting from what they give you,to however you want it and it'll still be heading 1), then you just click insert --> references, index and table, then table of contents. Boom done. In addition, you can then use that table of contents to get to the section in the paper you want instead of scrolling through the entire paper.
